The difference the right shaft can make

SHAFT FITTING

The difference the right shaft can make

The single most important factor when getting fitted for clubs is the shaft.
With over 500 shaft options available, there is no such thing as the ‘best’ shaft on the market – it’s completely different for every golfer.

Indeed the best performing shaft for one golfer could well be a bad match for another golfer – fitting a shaft for any golfer depends on the unique characteristics of that individual’s swing.

At Precision Golf we analyse your individual swing and pair you with the perfect shaft for each of your clubs.

SHAFT FITTING

The key to consistency

In golf, the shaft is the key to consistency, which unlocks better results – a badly fitted shaft will likely affect both a player’s timing and ball control.

An experienced fitter will consider both weight and flex of shaft during the fitting process – with the two factors working in harmony to deliver club to ball during a golf swing.

The right weight paired with the appropriate flex reduces shot dispersion, improves ball flight and accuracy and dependable performance.

SHAFT FITTING

Shaft weight

Many golfers think that flex has the greatest impact on performance, but in truth it is shaft weight – a shaft that is just 5g too heavy or too light will render the flex of the shaft largely irrelevant.

It’s also one of the most common issues we surface when a golfer is fitted for clubs at Precision Golf. The shaft weight in their existing clubs just isn’t compatible with their swing and is actually hindering performance.

So our experienced fitters start by identifying a specific swing-weight category for any golfer they are fitting. Once a category is defined, the fitter can swiftly zero in on the perfect shaft weight for an individual club and progressively weight shafts for clubs right through the bag.

SHAFT FITTING

Shaft flex

Whilst shaft-weight is a broader brush, shaft-flex is the focused and highly individual aspect of shaft fitting.

Based on a golfer’s swing speed, tempo and transition, a shaft’s flex will impact launch angle, trajectory and dispersion.

So, understanding a player’s game helps our fitters when it comes to flex recommendations. We discuss what a player wants to achieve with each club in the bag, whether they play a links, heathland or parkland golf course and whether they play one ball flight consistently or like to shape each shot.

As we said before, the perfect weight and flex allows a player to swing naturally, improving the control and feel they have over club and ball.
