What is a Precision fitting?

PRECISION FITTING & BUILD

A fitting experience like no other.

We’re known for offering the most comprehensive custom fitting and build experience – pairing golfers of all abilities with the clubs that elevate their game.
THE PRECISION FITTING EXPERIENCE

Built around you

At Precision Golf, we fit the clubs to the golfer, so every fitting begins with getting to know a bit more about you before you even hit a golf ball.

Your current handicap, playing history, how often you play or practice, what you want to achieve, niggles you have with current clubs or any injuries you may be playing with.

Then we examine the make-up of your existing clubs, measuring & recording every aspect from club length, loft, lie and much more.

THE PRECISION FITTING EXPERIENCE

Establishing a baseline

Next, we’ll ask you to hit a few balls with your current equipment on a TrackMan 4 launch monitor to establish a baseline.

Your fitter will then compare the rich data set from your swing and strike pattern with how this has translated into shot outcomes – allowing them to see where there could be opportunities for improvement in your equipment.

THE PRECISION FITTING EXPERIENCE

Finding your best fit

Next comes the “Precision”. Using the analysis, your fitter will select a range of different clubs and combinations for you to try, with the data from each informing the next recommendation.

Using interchangeable shaft and head technology allows us to test any combination of head with shaft, meaning you truly get a custom fit of superior performing clubs.

It also means we can try demo shafts in your existing clubs (or vice-versa) to determine whether you can get a performance uplift without the cost of replacing the entire club.

This process makes up the majority of the session – with your fitter continually monitoring the data and making minor adjustments to find the winning combination.

THE PRECISION FITTING EXPERIENCE

The recommendation

The session concludes with your fitter talking you through the recommendation with a full explanation.

You can also request to have the TrackManTM data from your session emailed to you.

Keep in mind that the recommendation you will be given is based on what gives you the best performance. That might mean engineering a new club from the ground up, but it might also mean changing components in your existing clubs such as shaft or grip.

THE PRECISION FITTING EXPERIENCE

Tour level build

If you decide to go ahead with our recommendation, the process moves into our custom build workshop where some of the best club makers in the industry will engineer your clubs from the ground up.

The fact that our custom fittings all take place on-site means that there is never miscommunication between club fitter and club builder. Equipment is built perfectly to specification every time.

It’s a process that takes up to four weeks, but given the superior quality and craftsmanship, it’s worth the wait.

THE PRECISION FITTING EXPERIENCE

Equipment collection

We’ll let you know a few days in advance of when your clubs are ready to collect or they can be couriered to you if you prefer.

While you can rest-assured your clubs have been built to the highest quality and checked against your fitter’s specifications, in the the unlikely event anything doesn’t feel quite right, your clubs are covered by the Precision Performance Guarantee – let us know and we’ll be on hand to explain why or make any tweaks right away.

Choose your fitting

“Best independent club fitting experience I have used in the UK. Well established, and always improving their service.

Highly recommended for all levels of golfers to find the best combination of equipment to play the game better.”

“Went with some open ideas on what they could do, being a high handicapper. Stunned at how different the fitting process worked, being significantly more flexible. Not only was my fitter able to get a driver that is slightly longer and consistent than my own driver, it felt easier to hit.

The ability to try an aftermarket shaft makes a huge difference. The fitters used both the data and his expertise to work through shaft and head combinations. Very professional. “

Custom fitting FAQs

Please explore the questions and answers below. Should your question not be covered to your satisfaction, please call or email us and we’ll reply as soon as we can.

What results should I expect from my fitting?

A fitting will give you a better understanding of why you are seeing the results you are on course from your existing set and will provide you recommendations for the best options to enhance your performance as well as a quotation for the prescribed work (be it new clubs or re-working your existing set).

Well fitted clubs will provide results that reflect what your swing is doing and cannot completely make up for technique deficiencies but can manage the results from a consistency point of view.

Is the club head or shaft more important?

The club head and shaft are equally important. The shaft is most important for general timing and swing synchronisation with an affect on feel of the club and the head is most important for managing ball flight (launch and spin) and off-centre performance based on your strike pattern. One cannot make up for the other and are equally as important.

Is every combination available to me?

All heads and shafts that we stock start as options, however we are quickly able to narrow the selection down for both head and shaft based on the flight profile you need and the weight that is suitable for you.

This way we can dial in on the best outcome rather than wasting unnecessary time and energy hitting options that are irrelevant.

Is the newest model always better?

The newest model will not always produce the best results – there are generally progressions made from a design and construction point of view but for some players these changes can make a backward step if they do not suit your delivery.

There must be value in making a change and we would always weight the cost of a change up versus the benefits to be seen.

What happens if I have an off day during my fitting?

If you are not happy with your performance on the day of the fitting and are not sure that the results will be representative then we would take the findings on the day as a reference and would look to get you back into the studio for a follow up session to double check the specs from the first fitting and make amendments where necessary.

We want you to be happy with the outcome and a second look will always confirm the choices and is far better to do this than question the results if you feel your swing was off.

How does the build process work?

At Precision Golf, our unique club building process includes thorough quality checking before assembly, precise measurements, weight checks, shaft balancing (SST PURE), and expert assembly to your exact specifications.

Our hand-built equipment is unparalleled to shop or factory-built equipment, you’ll notice this very clearly on the course. If you encounter any issues with your new clubs, our team will assist you in resolving as swiftly as possible.

What should I expect from my first club fitting?

Your first club fitting will be able to tell you about your current club set up and how they are performing for you and explain why you see particular patterns and shots from each part of the bag.

It will also highlight what potential performance improvements can be found from changing your clubs by testing with various head and shaft options to show what is achievable.

Can I be fit for an individual club?

We can fit for an individual club with specific fitting sessions for Drivers, Fairway and Hybrids. Driving irons and wedges can also be individually fit for whereas irons generally are fitted for as a multiple club set.

Is it okay to have a mixture of brands?

A mixture of brands is no issue at all as it is a case of just using the products that work best. For some players brand continuity is mentally very important and we can accommodate this as much as possible but modest Tour players, not under contract, have a mix of brands in the bag and it is solely to optimise performance across the entire set.

Can children be custom fit for their golf clubs?

For children’s fittings the difficulty is always growth rates and also club head weights that need taking into account. Most “adult”club heads are too heavy for young juniors and in this instance the Junior specific clubs are best as the head weights are proportionately lighter.

We would generally try to fit for length and weight that challenges the player early but that then lasts for as long as possible to get as much value from the clubs as possible.

How long will my clubs be relevant?

As long as your body remains broadly the same in terms of injuries and mobility then the clubs will remain relevant. Increases in strength through gym work can mean slight changes are needed but for the vast majority of players clubs can last between 5 and 10 years barring injuries.

Do I need lessons or a club fitting?

Both are important and if major swing changes are needed then it is best to do these first, however a fitting will identify how much of a change the clubs can make and an experienced fitter can advise which route of lessons or clubs is the best to do first for optimum results

Am I good enough for a club fitting?

For the best players it is fine tuning but for the “average golfer” we can often make far larger changes to the bag and much bigger differences to their game through fitting. This makes it far more relevant for the mid to higher handicapper than you may think.
